Moldova and Ukraine: Strategic Partnership for Security and a European Future

March 24, 2025, Chișinău – The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Dorin Recean, held a crucial meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova, Paun Rohovei. The discussion focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation. They also discussed advancing European integration, and enhancing regional security.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean emphasized that Ukraine continues to heroically defend not only its own territory but also the stability of the entire region. He reassured that Moldova will remain a reliable partner. They will continue to support Ukraine both bilaterally and internationally.

In turn, Ambassador Paun Rohovei expressed his gratitude to the Moldovan people for the assistance provided to Ukrainian refugees since the first days of the full-scale war. He also thanked Moldova for its political support of Ukraine in European institutions.

Key Areas of Cooperation

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the European path. They emphasized that EU integration remains a shared goal for both Moldova and Ukraine.

Priority areas of cooperation include:

  • Energy Security – further integration of the energy systems of both countries and strengthening independence from Russian energy sources.
  • Infrastructure and Transport Development – the construction of a new bridge over the Dniester River, which will improve logistical connections between the two states.
  • Information and Cybersecurity – coordinating efforts to counter disinformation and cyber threats.
  • Defense Capabilities – increasing investments in security initiatives and strengthening cooperation in the defense sector.
  • Humanitarian Aid – improving the living conditions of Ukrainian refugees in Moldova, facilitating their social integration, and providing educational support.
  • Cultural Initiatives – preserving Ukrainian cultural heritage in Moldova and implementing joint projects in education, science, and the arts.

Trilateral Cooperation Format

Special attention was given to the Moldova-Ukraine-Romania cooperation format, which has already shown high effectiveness in energy, infrastructure, and security matters. This collaboration serves as a key factor in ensuring regional stability and fostering closer integration into European structures.

Moldova and Ukraine continue to move forward together! Friendship, cooperation, and shared values serve as the foundation for a stable and prosperous future for both nations.
