Strengthening Diplomatic Relations Between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine
On 24 June 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova hosted an official meeting. It was between State Secretary Mr. Valeriu Mija and Mr. Mark Shevchenko, Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Mr. Shevchenko was on a working visit to Chișinău.
Regional Security and the Peaceful Settlement of the Transnistrian Conflict
During the discussions, both parties addressed key aspects of international and regional cooperation. They gave particular attention to current security challenges, the ongoing process of the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, and Moldova’s steady progress toward European integration.
Reaffirming Moldova’s Commitment to Peaceful Resolution and Sovereignty
State Secretary Mija reiterated the Republic of Moldova’s firm and unwavering position. He stated that the Transnistrian issue must be resolved exclusively through peaceful means. This must be done with full respect for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
Ukraine’s Strategic Role in Promoting Regional Stability
The meeting highlighted Ukraine’s essential role as a strategic partner. This role is in fostering peace and stability on both banks of the Dniester River. Both sides emphasized the need for continued international cooperation based on trust. They shared democratic values and mutual support.

This dialogue reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to deepen diplomatic engagement. They aim to work collaboratively in advancing stability, security, and a common European future for the region.
