Ambassador Victor Chirilă Joins Moldova – Ukraine Customs Talks on Border Security and European Integration

A bilateral meeting between the heads of the customs authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine was held in Mohyliv-Podilskyi, with the participation of Victor Chirilă, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine. The discussions focused on strengthening Moldova – Ukraine customs cooperation, enhancing border security, facilitating bilateral trade, modernizing border infrastructure, and advancing both countries’ European integration.

Moldova and Ukraine Strengthen Customs Cooperation

Strengthening cooperation between the Moldovan and Ukrainian customs authorities was at the centre of the meeting. The parties discussed measures to improve the security and efficiency of the Moldova – Ukraine border while creating more favourable conditions for cross-border trade and movement.

Particular attention was paid to aligning customs procedures and border management practices with European Union standards as the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine continue their shared path towards EU integration.

The participants also reviewed the operation of border crossing points, progress in implementing joint projects, and opportunities to expand bilateral customs cooperation in strategically important areas.

Modernizing the Moldova – Ukraine Border and Digitalizing Customs Procedures

Border infrastructure modernization was another key topic of the Moldova – Ukraine customs talks. With trade and transport flows continuing to develop, the parties emphasized the importance of upgrading border crossing infrastructure in line with European integrated border management standards.

Another important topic was the potential expansion of joint border control mechanisms at Moldova – Ukraine crossing points.

Joint control can help reduce border crossing times, optimize the use of available resources, simplify procedures, and facilitate the movement of citizens and goods between the two countries.
