The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova has outlined its key foreign policy priorities for 2026, focusing on economic development, European integration, enhanced consular services for citizens abroad, and the international promotion of Moldova’s cultural and tourism potential.
These strategic directions were presented by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi, in an official interview with the MOLDPRES news agency.
Economic Diplomacy as a Strategic Pillar
In 2026, economic diplomacy will remain a core priority of Moldova’s foreign policy agenda. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will concentrate on promoting Moldovan exports, attracting foreign investment, and strengthening institutional capacities to support sustainable economic growth. These efforts aim to improve the overall well-being of citizens and increase Moldova’s competitiveness on international markets.
European Integration and EU Accession Process
European integration continues to be a central objective of the Republic of Moldova. The Government plans to accelerate negotiations with the European Union by opening all negotiation clusters, enabling progress across all chapters of the accession process. The European Commission has already recognized Moldova as one of the most advanced EU candidate countries in terms of reform implementation.
Strengthening Consular Services and Diaspora Engagement
Enhancing consular support for Moldovan citizens abroad is another key priority. The Ministry intends to improve the accessibility, efficiency, and quality of consular services, while also expanding the network of diplomatic missions. These measures are designed to strengthen engagement with the Moldovan diaspora and ensure effective protection of citizens’ rights overseas.
Promotion of Culture, Tourism, and Cultural Diplomacy
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to promote the Republic of Moldova’s national culture, traditions, and tourism potential at the international level, including through cooperation with UNESCO. The recognition of the cobza as an element of intangible cultural heritage and Moldova’s membership on the UNESCO Executive Board provide new opportunities for advancing cultural diplomacy, developing tourism, and strengthening the country’s wine sector.
Participation in European Programmes and Initiatives
Ahead of EU accession, the Republic of Moldova aims to increase its participation in key European programmes and initiatives. This approach will allow citizens both within the country and abroad to benefit from practical outcomes of Moldova’s European integration path even before formal membership.
Role of the Honorary Consulate in Dnipro
The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova in Dnipro actively supports the strategic priorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Through its activities, the Consulate contributes to the development of bilateral relations with Ukraine, the protection of citizens’ rights, and the promotion of the Republic of Moldova at the regional and international levels.
