Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Vasile Tofan met with Paun Rohovei, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova, to discuss the further development of Moldova – Ukraine relations, economic and humanitarian cooperation, joint infrastructure projects, and cooperation on the management of the Dniester River’s water resources.
The meeting highlighted the close partnership between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine and their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, regional security, economic connectivity, and a common European future.
Moldova Reaffirms Support for Ukraine’s Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity
During the meeting, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan reaffirmed the Republic of Moldova’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and strongly condemned Russia’s aggression against the country.
«We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who are defending not only their own country but also the security of our region», the Prime Minister emphasized.
Ambassador Paun Rohovei thanked the Moldovan authorities and citizens for the support provided to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war. He particularly highlighted Moldova’s humanitarian assistance and its contribution to supporting people affected by the war and saving lives.
The discussion reaffirmed the importance of solidarity and continued cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine in addressing shared regional challenges.
Moldova and Ukraine Advance Joint Infrastructure and Economic Projects
A key focus of the meeting was the further development of practical Moldova – Ukraine cooperation, particularly in infrastructure, transport connectivity, and bilateral economic relations.
Among the priority issues discussed was the construction of the Cosăuți -Yampil Bridge, an important cross-border infrastructure project expected to improve transport links between Moldova and Ukraine and contribute to stronger regional connectivity.
The parties also discussed the resumption of the Moldova – Ukraine Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and the effective use of existing bilateral and regional cooperation mechanisms.
The implementation of these initiatives is expected to strengthen economic ties, facilitate cross-border mobility, improve transport connectivity, and create new opportunities for cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
Moldova – Ukraine Cooperation on the Dniester River
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and Ambassador Paun Rohovei also discussed bilateral cooperation in the management of the Dniester River’s water resources, an important area of cooperation for both countries.
The parties emphasized the importance of maintaining timely exchanges of information on the hydrological situation and ensuring continued coordination between the relevant Moldovan and Ukrainian authorities.
