The Republic of Moldova continues to support initiatives aimed at strengthening interethnic dialogue, protecting cultural diversity, and promoting multilingual education in Ukraine as part of broader European democratic values and regional cooperation efforts.
International Forum on Education in the Languages of National Minorities
On May 19 and 21, 2026, Ukraine hosted a series of international events dedicated to supporting national minorities, advancing multilingual education, preserving cultural diversity, and strengthening interethnic harmony. The events brought together representatives of government institutions, diplomatic missions, academia, international organizations, civil society, and ethnic communities.
On May 19, Kyiv hosted the international forum «Strategic Directions for the Development of Textbooks in the Languages of Indigenous Peoples and National Minorities”», focused on improving education in the languages of national communities and ensuring equal access to quality education.
The forum united representatives of the education sector, government authorities, diplomatic missions, publishing houses, and international partners. The event was officially opened by Oksen Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Moldova Advocates for Cultural Diversity and Minority Education
During the opening panel discussion, Victor Chirilă, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine, emphasized the importance of supporting education in the languages of national minorities, promoting intercultural dialogue, and strengthening regional cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova in the fields of education and culture.
Participants discussed the development of modern educational materials for national minorities, the exchange of international expertise, and the importance of preserving the cultural identity of ethnic communities.
Forum of National Minorities and Indigenous Peoples Held in Kyiv
The intercultural dialogue continued during the Second Forum of National Minorities and Indigenous Peoples, held on May 21, 2026, at the M. M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden on the occasion of the Day of Interethnic Harmony and Cultural Diversity.
The event was organized by the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience and brought together representatives of national communities and indigenous peoples of Ukraine, diplomats, religious leaders, government officials, and civil society organizations.
Representing the Mission of the Republic of Moldova in Ukraine at the forum were Ambassador Victor Chirilă, Alexandru Prigorschi, Minister-Counsellor, and Uliana Iordachi, Second Secretary.
