Official Visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine on 10 February: Strengthening Strategic Partnership and European Integration

On 10 February, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Munteanu, conducted an official visit to Kyiv, Ukraine. During the visit, he held high-level meetings with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, and First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Oleksandr Kornienko. The discussions focused on enhancing the Moldova – Ukraine strategic partnership, promoting regional security, coordinating European integration efforts, and providing sustained political, diplomatic, and humanitarian support to Ukraine.

Strengthening Moldova – Ukraine Strategic Partnership

During the meeting with President Zelenskyy, the leaders addressed pressing security challenges, the consequences of Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine, and the importance of consolidating international support to achieve a just and lasting peace.

Prime Minister Munteanu reaffirmed Chisinau’s unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. He emphasized that the Republic of Moldova will continue to be a reliable partner, offering consistent political, diplomatic, and humanitarian assistance.

The discussions also focused on coordinating European integration efforts, aligning national reforms, and fostering effective collaboration in international forums. Particular attention was given to the continued development of the regional cooperation initiative known as the «Odesa Triangle» (Republic of Moldova – Ukraine – Romania).

Humanitarian Assistance and Support for Ukrainian Citizens

Since the onset of the full-scale war, the Republic of Moldova has provided systematic humanitarian aid to Ukraine. To date, 11 humanitarian convoys delivering essential goods and equipment have been dispatched. Recently, the Moldovan Government approved a new assistance package, including specialized emergency vehicles, generators, protective equipment, medical supplies, and food.

Supporting Ukrainian citizens displaced by the conflict remains a top priority. Over 130,000 Ukrainian nationals currently reside in Moldova, including 87,000 benefiting from the temporary protection mechanism, which ensures access to education, healthcare, social services, and employment opportunities. Approximately 20,000 of these beneficiaries are children.

Bilateral Agreements: Infrastructure, Child Protection, and Diplomatic Cooperation

During the visit, three significant bilateral agreements were signed to strengthen practical cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine.

Repatriation of Unaccompanied Children – This agreement establishes clear protocols for the identification, protection, and safe return of unaccompanied children to their permanent residence in compliance with international standards.

International Border Crossing Point «Cosăuți -Yampil» – The protocol formalizes the establishment of a road border crossing with international transit status and provides for the construction of a bridge over the Dniester River, enhancing cross-border infrastructure, economic activity, and mobility.

Employment Rights for Diplomatic Families – This agreement regulates the right to paid employment for family members of diplomatic and consular staff during their mission in the host country.

Joint Efforts in Reconstruction and Regional Security

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening economic, energy, and infrastructure cooperation. Key priorities include improving transport connectivity, strengthening cybersecurity resilience, enhancing energy security, and implementing joint regional initiatives.

Moldova also expressed its readiness to support Ukraine’s reconstruction through bilateral and multilateral projects aimed at ensuring stability and sustainable regional development.

Honoring Ukraine’s Fallen Heroes

As part of the visit, Prime Minister Munteanu, alongside Ukrainian officials, paid tribute to Ukraine’s fallen heroes at the Wall of Remembrance in Kyiv.

«Memory is action. We must continue their mission of defending and building the state for which they gave their most precious gift», emphasized Prime Minister Munteanu.

The Republic of Moldova expresses its deepest respect and gratitude to the Defenders of Ukraine.
