Chișinău, August 28, 2025 – The Republic of Moldova had the honor of hosting world-renowned Ukrainian boxer, undisputed heavyweight world champion, and «National Legend of Ukraine» Oleksandr Usyk. His visit represents a significant milestone in sports diplomacy. It also contributes to the deepening of bilateral relations between Ukraine and Moldova.
High-Level Meetings with Sports Authorities
During his official visit, Oleksandr Usyk met with the leadership of the Olympic Committee of Moldova (Olympic Moldova) and the Boxing Federation of Moldova. He also toured the National Teams Boxing Training Center (Centrul Sportiv de Pregătire a Loturilor Naționale). This is where Moldova’s top athletes prepare for national and international competitions.
In addition, Usyk held meetings with representatives of the Moldovan business community. He presented his own projects and discussed potential partnerships. These efforts aim to promote sports development and collaboration between the two countries.
Commemorating the Victims of the Missile Strike on Kyiv
A key moment of the visit was Usyk’s visit to the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova. There, he, together with embassy staff and members of the Ukrainian community, observed a moment of silence. This was in memory of the victims of the missile strike on Kyiv on August 28, 2025.
During the visit, the athlete expressed his gratitude to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for their dedication in defending the nation. He emphasized that consistent effort and commitment are essential for achieving victory.
Courtesy Visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova
Oleksandr Usyk also paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, where he was received by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi. The meeting took place in a warm and cordial atmosphere. It underscored the mutual respect and commitment to strengthening Ukrainian-Moldovan relations.
