Republic of Moldova Enhances Bilateral Security Cooperation with Ukraine at the Interagency Level

Official Visit of the National Guard of Ukraine to Chișinău

On May 6–7, 2025, the Republic of Moldova hosted an official delegation from the National Guard of Ukraine, led by Commander and Hero of Ukraine, Brigadier General Oleksandr Pivnenko. This visit was facilitated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova. It marked a significant advancement in strengthening strategic cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine. The focus was on national and regional security.

Strategic Dialogue Between Security Institutions

During their stay in Chișinău, the Ukrainian delegation held high-level consultations with the leadership of the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs. They also met with the command of the General Inspectorate of Carabineers. The parties discussed shared security challenges and crisis management strategies. They also talked about mechanisms for strengthening operational coordination. Specifically, in maintaining public order and protecting civilian populations.

Signing of the Memorandum on Bilateral Cooperation

The visit culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Guard of Ukraine and the General Inspectorate of Carabineers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova. The agreement lays the foundation for implementing joint initiatives. These initiatives aim at improving the efficiency of responses to emerging security threats in the region. The document was formally signed by General Dumitru Scutaru, Commander of the General Inspectorate of Carabineers. Additionally, it was signed by Brigadier General Oleksandr Pivnenko, Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine.

Moldova’s Firm Commitment to Regional Stability and International Solidarity

Through this interagency engagement, the Republic of Moldova reaffirms its steadfast commitment to promoting regional peace, security, and solidarity with Ukraine. By strengthening institutional cooperation between national law enforcement bodies, Moldova continues to contribute actively. They aim for a secure and resilient European neighborhood. This is crucial in the face of today’s complex geopolitical realities.
