Republic of Moldova Explores Ukraine’s Experience in School Nutrition Reform

High-Level Diplomatic Meeting in Kyiv

On July 24, 2025, a high-level official meeting took place in Kyiv. It was between H.E. Mr. Valeriu Chiveri, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine, and Mr. Andrii Stashkiv, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine. The meeting focused on Ukraine’s school nutrition reform. This transformative initiative aimed at enhancing the quality, safety, and nutritional value of meals provided to students across the country.

Ukraine’s Best Practices in School Nutrition

During the meeting, Ukrainian representatives presented key achievements and best practices from the ongoing implementation of the school nutrition reform. These included:
● modernization of school kitchen and cafeteria infrastructure;
● updates to national standards and regulations for children’s nutrition;
● professional training for specialized kitchen and nutrition staff;
● integration of healthy eating habits into the educational curriculum.

Ukraine’s successful approach to creating a more effective and child-centered school meal system was met with strong interest from the Moldovan delegation. They are currently exploring avenues for similar reforms.

Strengthening Moldova – Ukraine Educational Cooperation

Both sides emphasized the importance of adapting successful regional practices to national contexts. It is crucial to ensure healthy, balanced, and accessible school meals for all children. The discussions laid the groundwork for future collaboration in the field of education and social policy.

This meeting highlighted the growing diplomatic and technical cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. They are addressing shared societal challenges and investing in the long-term well-being of children and youth.
