On October 10, 2025, His Excellency Valeriu Chiveri, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine, participated in the International Philological Symposium. This event was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Department of General Linguistics, Classical and Neo-Hellenistic Philology.
The event was organized by the Scientific and Pedagogical Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. It is one of Ukraine’s leading academic institutions.
Promoting Linguistic Research and Preserving Academic Heritage
The International Symposium marked a milestone in Ukraine’s philological and academic life. It gathered distinguished philologists, scholars, and diplomats from various countries. Participants underscored the department’s significant contributions to linguistic research, academic excellence, and intercultural dialogue.
A special tribute was paid to Dr. Stanislav Semchynsky, a prominent linguist whose scholarly work greatly contributed to the promotion of the Romanian language in Ukraine. Professor Semchynsky is widely recognized for his outstanding achievements. He held numerous Ukrainian and international honors and was an Honorary Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Moldova.
Ambassador Valeriu Chiveri’s Address
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Valeriu Chiveri expressed high appreciation for the department’s longstanding academic achievements. He praised its role in strengthening the reputation of the Ukrainian school of philology. He emphasized the importance of language as a bridge between nations and cultures.
