On October 16, 2025, the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine hosted a significant cultural event – Gagauz Culture Day. The event was attended by Andrij Sybiha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and his wife Tetiana Sybiha. Leaders of the Crimean Tatar community, Mustafa Dzhemilev and Refat Chubarov, were also in attendance. Additionally, Yuriy Dimchoglo, Head of the Association of Gagauz Societies, and more than thirty heads of foreign diplomatic missions participated.
Preserving and Enriching Cultural Heritage
The celebration provided a valuable opportunity to explore the rich history, traditions, and cultural heritage of the Gagauz people. This community represents a vital cultural bridge between Moldova, Ukraine, and the Turkic world. A particularly emotional highlight of the event was the performance of the Ukrainian national song «Chervona Kalyna» in the Gagauz language. It symbolized unity, resilience, and mutual respect among nations.
The Role of the Gagauz Community in Development
The Gagauz community makes a meaningful contribution to education, healthcare, culture, and local governance in Ukraine and Moldova. The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova expresses its profound gratitude to Ukrainian servicemen of Gagauz descent. These servicemen courageously defend Ukraine today. The consulate also honors the memory of Gagauz heroes who gave their lives for peace and freedom.

In today’s geopolitical challenges, when war threatens Ukraine’s cultural identity and its minorities, preserving Gagauz culture is crucial. It is not only an act of cultural respect but also an essential element of national security and regional stability. Events like these strengthen bilateral cooperation and deepen cultural dialogue. They also promote greater understanding of Gagauz history and traditions.
