Moldova and Ukraine Reaffirm Commitment to EU Membership and Strengthen Strategic Partnership During High-Level Meeting in Chișinău

Moldova – Ukraine Cooperation and European Integration Discussed During Official Talks

Carolina Perebinos, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, held an official meeting with a delegation of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, headed by its Chairman, Oleksandr Merezhko, during his working visit to Chișinău. The meeting was also attended by Paun Rohovei, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova.

The discussions focused on strengthening Moldova – Ukraine relations, expanding bilateral cooperation, and advancing the European integration agendas of both countries. The participants highly appreciated the current level of strategic partnership between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting each other’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

The Moldovan side expressed its deep respect for the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people as they continue to defend their country against Russia’s ongoing military aggression. The parties also emphasized the importance of maintaining active political dialogue and expanding interparliamentary cooperation as key elements of regional stability and security.

Moldova and Ukraine Advance Toward European Union Membership

A central topic of the meeting was the progress of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine on their respective paths toward European Union membership. The parties welcomed preparations for the official opening of Cluster 1, «Fundamentals», within the EU accession negotiation framework.

The opening of the Fundamentals Cluster represents an important milestone in the European integration process of both Moldova and Ukraine and reflects the progress achieved in implementing reforms aligned with European Union standards and values.

Participants underlined the importance of maintaining the momentum of the EU enlargement process and continuing accession negotiations through the opening of additional clusters. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing democratic reforms, strengthening institutions, and implementing the necessary measures required for future EU membership.

Strategic Partnership Based on European Values

The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine continue to strengthen their strategic partnership based on democracy, the rule of law, respect for sovereignty, and shared European values.

Enhanced bilateral cooperation, mutual support, and close coordination throughout the European integration process remain essential components of the joint efforts of Moldova and Ukraine to build a secure, democratic, and prosperous future within the European family.

As candidate countries for European Union membership, Moldova and Ukraine remain committed to deepening cooperation, promoting regional stability, and advancing reforms that contribute to a stronger, more united, and resilient Europe.
