Chișinău Hosts High-Level Meeting Focused on EU Accession Efforts
On April 30, 2025, a high-level official meeting was held in Chișinău. This meeting was between Ms. Cristina Gherasimov, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, and Ms. Olga Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Minister of Justice of Ukraine.
Advancing Ukraine’s Legislative Alignment with EU Standards
The discussions focused on Ukraine’s continued progress. This progress involved harmonizing its national legislation with European Union standards, despite the ongoing challenges posed by Russia’s full-scale invasion. Deputy Prime Minister Gherasimov commended Ukraine’s achievements. She reaffirmed Moldova’s support for Ukraine’s reform agenda and emphasized the importance of justice sector reform as a cornerstone for restoring public trust.
Strengthening Institutional Trust Through Judicial Reform
“We explored mechanisms for enhancing public trust in the judiciary through structural reforms. We also highlighted the need for sustained institutional cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine,” stated Ms. Gherasimov.
Shared Commitment to EU Membership and Regional Stability
Both parties reiterated their countries’ shared objective of full European Union membership. As neighboring EU candidate states, Moldova and Ukraine are united. They are committed to democratic governance, the rule of law, and a secure and prosperous European future.
Ongoing Diplomatic Dialogue Through Reciprocal Visits
To reinforce bilateral relations and maintain the momentum of dialogue, the two officials extended mutual invitations for future diplomatic visits. Ms. Gherasimov invited her Ukrainian counterpart to revisit Chișinău, while receiving a reciprocal invitation to Kyiv for further strategic consultations.
