Moldova and Ukraine Strengthen Strategic Energy Partnership and Advance European Integration Goals

High-Level Bilateral Engagement

On April 22, 2025, the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Dorin Junghietu, held a high-level working meeting. The meeting was with H.E. Mr. Paun Rohovei, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova.

Advancing Energy Cooperation as a Strategic Priority

The meeting focused on deepening Moldova–Ukraine cooperation in the energy sector—one of the most pressing strategic priorities for both countries. Discussions emphasized the implementation of joint cross-border energy initiatives. These aim at aligning the Moldovan and Ukrainian energy systems with the European energy framework.

Key Strategic Priorities Discussed

Among the core topics on the agenda were:

  • Enhancing regional energy security through coordinated efforts;
  • Expanding cooperation in electricity and natural gas supply;
  • Reviewing natural gas transit tariffs in response to emerging challenges in the regional energy market.

Commitment to Energy Independence through Regional Cooperation

Both parties underscored that true energy independence can only be achieved through strengthened regional partnerships, mutual knowledge-sharing, and harmonized policy decisions. These collaborative efforts are critical for building resilient energy systems in both Moldova and Ukraine.

European Integration Through Energy Alignment

The Moldovan–Ukrainian energy partnership is a vital component of their broader European integration strategy. Ensuring access to stable and secure energy infrastructure is fundamental to the sustainable development of aspiring EU member states. It also aligns with EU standards and practices.
