Republic of Moldova Reaffirms Its Support for Ukraine During Mihai Popșoi’s Official Visit to Kyiv

During his official visit to Kyiv, Mihai Popșoi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, reaffirmed Moldova’s unwavering support for Ukraine. His visit included a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a visit to the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, and an opportunity to thank the diplomatic staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Ukraine for their dedicated service under wartime conditions.

Mihai Popșoi and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Discuss Regional Security and European Integration

During the meeting in Kyiv, Mihai Popșoi and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed key issues on the bilateral agenda, including regional security, Moldova – Ukraine cooperation, transport, energy and infrastructure connectivity, as well as the shared European aspirations of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace for Ukraine based on full respect for its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his appreciation for the Republic of Moldova’s consistent support and highlighted the importance of expanding joint projects, particularly in the infrastructure and energy sectors.

Republic of Moldova Supports the Protection of Ukraine’s Cultural Heritage

As part of his visit, Mihai Popșoi toured the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, one of Ukraine’s most significant spiritual and cultural landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The damage caused to this historic monument by Russian attacks serves as another reminder that the war is directed not only against civilians and critical infrastructure, but also against Ukraine’s historical memory and cultural heritage.

The Republic of Moldova reiterated its firm condemnation of attacks on civilian infrastructure and cultural heritage sites and reaffirmed its support for international efforts to protect, preserve and restore Ukraine’s cultural heritage.

Recognising the Work of Moldovan Diplomats in Ukraine

Concluding his visit, Mihai Popșoi met with the staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Ukraine, expressing his sincere gratitude for their professionalism, resilience and unwavering commitment while serving under the extraordinary circumstances of war.

He underlined the vital role of the Embassy in strengthening Moldova – Ukraine relations, supporting Moldovan citizens in Ukraine and advancing bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

Republic of Moldova Remains a Reliable Partner of Ukraine

The Republic of Moldova continues to stand firmly with Ukraine in its defence of freedom, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. Strengthening the Moldova – Ukraine strategic partnership, expanding joint infrastructure initiatives, advancing European integration, and reinforcing regional security remain shared priorities for both countries.
