In July 2025, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova in the city of Dnipro participated for the first time in the Annual Meeting of the Heads of Ukraine’s Foreign Diplomatic Missions. This year’s event held particular significance. It marked the first official inclusion of both foreign honorary consuls accredited in Ukraine and Ukrainian honorary consuls abroad in this high-level strategic diplomatic dialogue.
Strengthening Diplomatic Dialogue and International Cooperation
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, under the initiative of Minister Andrij Sybiha, demonstrated its commitment to expanding the format of diplomatic communication and international partnership. They did this by opening the dialogue to honorary consulates. The importance of the event was further underscored by the presence of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He emphasized the critical role of diplomacy in Ukraine’s pursuit of freedom, international solidarity, and a just peace.
The Role of Honorary Consulates in Enhancing Bilateral Relations
Today, the institution of honorary consulates plays a vital role in fostering intergovernmental dialogue, advancing humanitarian initiatives, and strengthening economic cooperation. For the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova in Dnipro, participation in this event signifies a high level of trust and recognition. This recognition comes from the Ukrainian government.
During the meeting, thematic discussions were held with the participation of members of the diplomatic corps, Parliament, and honorary consuls. Key areas of focus included:
● Enhancing the Moldova – Ukraine bilateral partnership;
● Increasing humanitarian aid for Ukrainians affected by the war;
● Promoting economic collaboration and attracting foreign investment;
● Implementing joint regional development projects, with a focus on support for children and vulnerable groups.
From the Power of Diplomacy to the Diplomacy of Power
The official agenda included the presentation of new exequaturs and the appointment of a designated coordinator. This coordinator will facilitate effective communication between honorary consuls and Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Furthermore, a joint session of honorary consuls, ambassadors, and Members of Parliament was also held. This session fostered stronger interinstitutional ties.
This year’s meeting was held under the theme: «From the Power of Diplomacy to the Diplomacy of Power». This theme is a timely reflection of the challenges currently facing the international community.
