Customs Cooperation between Ukraine, Romania, and the Republic of Moldova: Joint Efforts and Exchange of Expertise

An important expert meeting of customs service representatives from Ukraine, Romania, and the Republic of Moldova took place at the Porubne-Siret international road border crossing. This event was organized within the framework of agreements reached during the meeting of the heads of the three countries’ customs administrations, held on October 30, 2024, in Chisinau.

The main topic of the meeting was the coordination of a joint customs operation aimed at combating smuggling and customs fraud. Participants emphasized the importance of prompt cooperation and the application of modern risk analysis methods to ensure effective border control.

The strategic initiative to create a Regional Platform for Institutional Development of the three countries’ customs administrations was also discussed. This online environment will facilitate the exchange of crucial information and enhance cross-border cooperation in the customs sphere.

Special attention was paid to coordinating actions in case of emergencies at border crossings. The meeting participants agreed on the necessity to develop joint response algorithms and mechanisms for rapid information exchange.

An agreement was also reached on conducting joint training events for customs officers of neighboring countries, which will enhance professional development, facilitate the exchange of experience, and implement best practices in customs control.

Summarizing the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their readiness for further cooperation development and committed to continuing joint work on initiatives that will improve the efficiency of customs control and border security.

The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova in the city of Dnipro welcomes these important initiatives and supports the strengthening of cooperation between our countries in all areas, including the customs sector.
