Beginning in April 2025, citizens will be able to apply for the new-generation ID cards. These are designed to meet European security standards and support digital integration.

Key Features of the New ID Card

  • Compact and convenient – The new ID card will be the size of a bank card, making it easy to carry and use.
  • Enhanced security – Personal data will be stored in both printed and electronic formats, ensuring greater protection.
  • No address details – The card will not include the holder’s place of residence, eliminating the need for renewal when changing addresses.
  • Integrated digital signature – Cardholders will be able to authenticate online and sign official documents electronically without visiting government offices.
  • Fast processing – The issuance period will be 20 business days.
  • Free for the first one million applicants – The first one million citizens to apply will receive their new ID cards free of charge.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

The new ID card will be available to all Moldovan citizens aged 14 and older.
