Official Meeting in Chișinău Reinforces Strategic Partnership
On May 5, 2025, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Moldova, Mrs. Victoria Belous, held an official working meeting with the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Paun Rohovei, in Chișinău. The meeting focused on strengthening Moldova–Ukraine financial cooperation. Additionally, it aimed at advancing joint European integration efforts.
Moldova Reaffirms Support for Ukraine’s Sovereignty
During the discussions, both sides highlighted key areas for expanding bilateral financial collaboration. They agreed on aligning strategic goals. Moldova reiterated its steadfast support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Moldova expressed commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian people, facing ongoing Russian aggression.
Advancing Legislative Harmonization and Financial Reforms
The parties agreed on the importance of intensifying dialogue between financial institutions. They included expert working groups from both countries. The aim is to develop joint financial initiatives. A shared priority is the harmonization of national legislation with EU standards. They want to promote transparency, strengthen anti-corruption measures, and accelerate the digital transformation of financial services. Similarly, they seek to update tax systems.
Focus on a Compensation Fund and Frozen Russian Assets
Special attention was given to the establishment of an international compensation fund aimed at addressing the damages caused by the war in Ukraine. The Ukrainian side formally requested information on frozen Russian assets located in Moldova. This might serve as a potential source of funding for the future compensation mechanism.
Expression of Solidarity from the Republic of Moldova
Minister Victoria Belous extended heartfelt condolences to the Ukrainian people. This was in light of the tragic civilian casualties resulting from continued missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities.
Commitment to Sustainable Development and Regional Stability
The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova in Dnipro welcomes the constructive and forward-looking dialogue between Moldova and Ukraine. Strengthening financial cooperation is viewed as a key driver for sustainable development. It is important for effective governance reforms and long-term economic growth for both countries within a European framework.
