On 23 June 2025, the Republic of Moldova solemnly marks 35 years since the adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty. This landmark document laid the foundation for Moldova’s independence and the development of a democratic, rule-based state.
Historical Significance of the Declaration of Sovereignty
Adopted by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova on 23 June 1990, the Declaration of Sovereignty established the legal and political framework for an independent, democratic, and sovereign state.
It affirmed the Moldovan people’s aspiration to build a free society grounded in human rights, rule of law, and national self-determination.
This historic act paved the way for Moldova’s full independence, which was later declared on 27 August 1991.
On this important anniversary, the nation pays tribute to the individuals who stood at the forefront of Moldova’s statehood. These were those whose vision, courage, and commitment made sovereignty a reality.
Sovereignty as the Foundation of Moldova’s European Future
The principles enshrined in the Declaration of Sovereignty continue to guide Moldova’s political trajectory. They underpin its commitment to European integration, democratic reforms, and international cooperation.
Sovereignty remains a cornerstone of the country’s long-term development, institutional resilience, and national unity.
The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova in Dnipro reaffirms its full support for Moldova’s strategic European course. It highlights the essential role of the Moldovan diaspora in promoting peace, freedom, and prosperity worldwide.
