Ukraine Awards the Order «For Merit» II Class to Former Moldovan Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan in Chișinău

On 9 December 2025, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova hosted an official ceremony to present one of Ukraine’s highest state honors – the Order «For Merit» II Class – to Sergiu Prodan. He served as Moldova’s Minister of Culture from 2021 to 2025. The event became a significant milestone in strengthening Ukrainian-Moldovan cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sectors.

The award was presented on behalf of the President of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people by Paun Rohovei, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova. Ambassador Rohovei emphasized that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s decision to confer this distinction reflects profound respect for Sergiu Prodan’s contribution to the development of bilateral relations. His steadfast support for Ukraine during its most challenging period was noteworthy.

Strengthening Cultural Cooperation Between Ukraine and Moldova

Sergiu Prodan received the state award for his substantial role in enhancing Ukrainian-Moldovan partnership, including:
● promoting cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian spheres;
● initiating programs aimed at developing and popularizing Ukrainian culture in Moldova;
● providing continuous support to the Ukrainian community and refugees who sought safety in Moldova;
● upholding the values of freedom, democracy, and European unity;
● actively participating in joint cultural projects that foster dialogue and mutual understanding between the two nations.

During his tenure, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova launched several joint Ukrainian-Moldovan initiatives. These initiatives strengthened cultural exchange, preserved historical heritage, and expanded platforms for contemporary artistic collaboration.

Moldova and Ukraine: A Partnership Based on Solidarity

The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Moldova in Dnipro notes that the recognition of Sergiu Prodan represents not only personal acknowledgment of his achievements. It is also a symbol of Ukraine’s gratitude to the Moldovan people for their ongoing solidarity, friendship, and support.

Amid complex regional challenges, the Republic of Moldova continues to stand with Ukraine. This deepens cooperation in cultural, humanitarian, educational, and social areas. This partnership contributes to regional stability and supports the shared path toward a European future.
